Abbey School

Modern World at #teamabbey

At Abbey School, the Modern World encompasses both Religious Education, local and national communities.

Within Modern World, all of our pupils learn from and about religions, other cultures and languages to understand the world around them, fostering  pupil’s curiosity about their place in the world.  Modern World lessons should be assessed in other areas of the curriculum, focusing on our communication progress document

Please note that the Curriculum Map begins with L1 at the bottom of this document.

The content of these are avaiailable upon request and an overview can be seen on the Modern World Curriculum Map below.

Our Approach to Collective Worship

All pupils at Abbey School are required to take part in daily collective worship where they are given the opportunity to explore their own beliefs and consider spiritual and moral issues.

At Abbey School, the daily act of worship is considered an integral and important part of school life. In accordance with the School Standards and Framework Act 1998, the daily collective worship shall be “wholly or mainly of a broadly Christian character” though not representative of a particular Christian denomination.

All pupils are encouraged to learn about the beliefs of others in addition to their own as part of the religious education national curriculum. Our Personal Development Calendar outlines our programme for collective worship.
