Introduction
The House System at Abbey is used to give our children a further sense of belonging . We have four houses named after the values we encourage our pupils and staff to show; Courage, Respect Attitude and Big Hearts -- these values all lead us into being #LionLeaders
We meet for House Assemblies and meet in Houses for special events . Every class is divided into 4 houses. Staff are also part of the 4 houses. Pupils will meet other pupils from all year groups in their House. Houses and House Events give a sense of belonging to our pupils and promote Fundamental British Values and SMSC. They act as a driver to build confidence, resilience and opportunities to engage with society within school and beyond the school gate. Our House System is the foundation for promoting Personal Development and protected Characteristics beyond the classroom
Our pupils collect House Points to spend in the School Shop. Everyone of our house points is worth a penny. This gives pupils a chance to learn about financial viability and promote key life skills. Pupils also earn house points for Lion Leadership roles and working on the schools STEAM Street. (See The STEAM Street Section of our website)
Courage
The Courage Dragon promotes the courage it takes to try new things. Contributing to teaching pupils how to become an active citizen. To show courage and resilience to new challenges, understand how they can contribute positively to the lives of those living and working in school and beyond.
Attitude
Attitude Alligator promotes our pupils developing the right attitude to, not only, their school life but promoting how the attitudes they show contribute to being an active member of society. Paying due regard to the rule of law and understanding responsibility. Promoting a great attitude helps to bring happiness and health.
Respect
Our Respect House is promoted by the Respect Racoon who promotes within pupils the mutual respect and tolerance towards themselves and each other. Respecting others views, opinions, beliefs and promoting opportunities for decision-making through the democratic process
Heart
Hearty Zebra promotes how we want our pupils to show that they have big hearts. Contributing to the pupil's ability to show acceptance, initative, tolerance and harmony of theirs and others culture and beliefs.
